ONE STAR who seems to have accepted that her career has waned is Zsa Zsa Padilla’s friend, Kris Aquino. The day right after the election, she quickly left with her sons for Hawaii and they will stay there until July. Kris must have realized that most Filipinos no longer support her brother’s Daang Matuwid. The fact that Duterte won by landslide is a repudiation of his administration, coming from his so-called real bosses, the Filipino people, who are so disillusioned and disappointed with his touted straight path.
Despite allegations to the contrary, we all know that corruption still exists and Pnoy is very lenient to his friend, really a weak leader with not much political will as seen right away in the manner he reacted to the Luneta hostage strategy at the start of his terms. And then there’s the Mamasapano tragedy where he tried to boost the career of his disgrace friend Allan Purisima, the undelivered plates and driver’s licenses, the MRT glitches, the tanim bala, the airport and seaport congestion, etc.
Kris had a valid excuse when she first left for Hawaii: her failing health which is plagued by high blood pressure. But we all know her career is almost co-terminus with her brother’s stay in Malacanang. And besides, it’s no longer as prosperous as before. Her last movies, “Etiquette for Mistresses” and “All You Need is Pag-ibig” didn’t perform as spectacularly as expected at the box office. Her early morning TV talk show was also not rating that high anymore so there was even an attempt to pair her with Tunying Taberna, but this fizzled out.
She returned from Hawaii to campaign for the candidates of her brother Pres. Pnoy. Then she got flak for using the presidential helicopter in campaigning in the provinces. She called for her followers to defend her from her bashers in social media but, alas, they were outnumbered by her haters and detractors. There was an attempt to gain sympathy for her with the story that the Abu Sayyaf wants to kidnap her, but this, too backfired. So it’s really best for her to completely stay away from the limelight for a while and hibernate abroad.
In her social media account, she wrote to her supporters: “I’ve always said, my sons & I wouldn’t have what we have now had it not been for the 20 years you allowed me to be part of your daily viewing. I thank my home network ABS CBN, and all our past & current endorsements for the trust & the opportunities to be a part of your lives. Maraming Salamat. Much love & gratitude to all of you. Kris Aquino, signing off...”
Who knows, when she comes back, for all we know, the public might realize they still miss her and would still be willing to welcome her back with open arms. Then she can give her showbiz career a second wind.
