New Kapuso Actor Rob Moya Is Aware That His Dad, Seiko Films Actor Jovit Moya, Is Gay

ROB MOYA is one of the new stars being introduced by GMA-7 in their show that starts airing tomorrow night, “Juan Happy Love Story”, to replace “Because Of You”. He plays the best friend of Dennis Trillo who is shown to be getting married at the pilot telecast of the show. It’s at his wedding where Dennis, who is the best man, first meets Heart Evangelista who’s one of the bridesmaids. At the show’s presscon, Rob was introduced as the son of former Seiko Films star in the 1990s, Jovit Moya.

When he was interviewed solo by the press, Rob was asked if the rumor that his dad is gay were true (actually, Jovit outed himself in a TV show 12 years ago, just before he migrated to the USA) and Robbie is honest enough to admit that yes, his dad personally admitted to him that he’s gay.

“He went to the States when I was only 12 years old and ten years kaming hindi nagkita,” he says. “When he returned, 22 na ako and that’s when he admitted to me that yes, he’s gay. He never had the chance to open up to us before kundi nito lang pagbalik niya and I told him na matagal ko nang alam. Kasi whenever people would know he’s my dad, they’d start asking questions about his sexual preference. But for me naman, my attitude ever since is ‘E ano naman ngayon kung gay nga ang dad ko?’ Basta para sa akin, he’s the best father any kid can have kasi hindi niya kami pinabayaan ng mga kapatid ko. Even when he went to live abroad, he remained to be a good provider. Nakapag-aral kami ng mga kapatid ko in good schools at lumaki kaming maayos. As long as he is the father na nagpakita ng pagmamahal sa amin, I couldn’t care less if he was gay or not. Ang alam ko lang, mahal ako ng tatay ko at siya pa ang nagdala sa’kin sa GMA-7, sinamahan niya ako para matupad yung dream kong maging artista rin. In 2014, napasama ako sa Cosmo Bachelors, but I signed up with GMA Artist Center nitong November 2015 lang, pinag-workshop ako to prepare me as an actor at ngayon, heto, introducing na ako sa ‘Juan Happy Love Story’. I fulfilled my dream of being an actor like my dad, so I feel I’m so blessed so I want to thank my dad for helping me make my dream come true.”

So how’s it working with Dennis and Heart in “Juan Happy Love Story”? “Noong una, intimidated ako, kasi siempre, malalaking artista na sila and I’m a newcomer. But they’re both very nice, accommodating. They never made me feel na o, baguhan ka lang. And for that, I’m thankful. Talagang tinulungan nila ako at pati iba pang new stars being introduced in the show para magawa namin nang tama ang trabaho namin.”
