“You can ask our producer, Atty. Joji Alonso of Quantum Films, and she herself will tell you that walang ganon,” says Shaina. “Matagal na kaming balak gawan ng movie ni Derek pero hindi natutuloy, but I’m so glad ako ang kinuha nila for ‘My Candidate’ at natuloy na rin ang pagtatambal namin dito.”
Would she be willing to work with JLC or Angelica in the future? “Naku, ang trabaho ay trabaho, so walang problema, lalo na kapag maganda talaga ang material. Actually, kami ni John Lloyd, nagkatrabaho na when he appeared in our soap noon ni Gerald Anderson, ‘Nathaniel’, and okay naman kami. As for Angelica, I haven’t seen her lately. There’s just no chance for us to bump into each other kundi noon lang Star Magic Ball, and out of courtesy, ako pang lumapit sa kanya para bumati. Five years na yung sa amin ni John Lloyd, ang tagal na, you have to let go of the anger and the pain for your own sake para makapag-move on ka. How can you have a normal and peaceful life kung lingon ka nang lingon sa nangyari sa nakaraan mo? Marami akong natutuhan sa experiences na pinagdaanan ko sa buhay and I’m thankful for all of them because they made me a better person. So nagpapasalamat ako kasi I don’t think I’d be what I am right now if not for them also.”
Does she have any inkling why John Lloyd’s relationships with his girlfriends (from Kaye Abad and Ciara Sotto to Liz Uy, Ruffa Gutierrez, her and Angelica) do not last? “Naku naman, dapat sa kanya nyo itanong yan, hindi sa akin. Basta with me, he was a good boyfriend naman, he’s a good guy, our relationship just didn’t work out. We’re good friends now. So I really don’t know why his relationships with the others didn’t work. Basta ako, hindi ako nagmamadali to get into another relationship. Mas importanteng I have peace of mind now, marami akong trabaho, and bahala na si Lord kung kailan Niya pararatinging si Mr. Right sa buhay ko. I’m thankful for all the positive feedback that I get for my performance in ‘My Candidate’ na huwag nyong kalimutang panoorin as it opens today, May 11, in theaters nationwide.”
