SEF CADAYONA is happy to be one of the judges in GMA-7’s new game show searching for new comedians, “Laff Camera Action” that starts airing this Saturday after “Imbestigador”. The show is hosted by Betong Sumaya and Sheena Halili, with Gladys Guevarra and comedy writer-director Cesar Cosme as the other judges. What can Sef say about the negative remarks of those who question his qualifications as a judge in this innovative kind of game show?
“I think malawak na rin ang naging exposure ko sa comedy, from shows like ‘Bubble Gang’ and ‘Vampire ang Daddy Ko”, and even “Juan Tamad” where I played the title role,” he says. “Nanalo na rin ako ng award doing comedy at sa tingin ko, iba-iba ang genre and levels ng comedy ngayon. Kaya nga tatlo kaming judges na galing sa iba’t ibang generations ng pagko-comedy. I’m honored to be a judge along with Gladys and Direk Cesar.”
How will he be as a judge? “I will judge the contestants very fairly, sa paraan na walang mao-offend. Hahanapan ko ng magandang points ang performance nila, pero they should expect na may konting sarcasm lang kung hindi ako masyadong natuwa sa trabaho nila. Katuwaan lang naman talaga ang unang goal nito. And I guess ‘yung mga contestant namin, they know na mahuhusgahan sila sa mga ginagawa nila.”
We hope the concept of the show will really click with our viewers. Improvised standup comedy usually works in sing-along bars like Zirkoh and Laffline because the comedians can resort to unscripted risque sexual jokes without fear of being censored. It’s really the “laswaan and bastusan” that make it funny, but that will be a no-no on TV where the MTRCB will be after them for any breach of conduct.
Sef is also part of the new GMA sexy sitcom, “A1 Ko Sa’yo!” where he plays Enzo, a chick boy photographer. “Game changer ang role ko rito kasi usually, beki ang roles ko. This time naman, may pagka-maniac na mahilig sa chicks. Hirap nga akong maka-relate kasi di naman ako ganyan in real life.”
Well, let’s ask Andrea Torres if this is true.
