THE NEW GMA Afternoon soap, “Sa Piling ni Nanay” (formerly “Womb for Hire”) that starts airing on June 27, reunites three Starstruck Batch 1 discoveries: Mark Herras, Yasmien Kurdi and Katrina Halili. So many things have happened in their own lives since they were discovered in that reality show 12 years ago. For one thing, they’re now all parents, but only Yasmien is married. Mark and Katrina have a love child each of their own.
As usual, Katrina will play the contravida in “Sa Piling ni Nanay”. “Binabasa ko pa lang ang script that was sent to me, sabi ko, ano ba to? At yung character niya, sobrang martir. Hindi gumaganti.”
How does Yasmien feel about this? Is she scared? “Parang. “So ready na ako. Pero siempre, magkakaroon rin din ng redemption in the course of the story. Kuwento ito ng mga pagpapakasakit ng isang ina and now na I’m a mother na in real life, mas nakaka-relate ako sa role ko at sa story ng ‘Sa Piling ni Nanay’. Kasama rin namin dito sina Benjamin Alves at Bettina Carlos.”
Isn’t Katrina somehow envious that Yasmien is happily married to a pilot while she’s raising her own daughter, Katy, as a single mom and hasn’t found her own Mr. Right yet? “I’m actually very happy for Yasmien,” says Katrina. “Walang inggitan sa batch namin. We’re all very happy for Jennylyn (Mercado) sa success ng career niya ngayon, gayundin for Cristine (Reyes) and Nadine (Samonte) who are now both happily married at nanay na rin.”
