BENJAMIN ALVES is currently seen as the rich husband of Katrina Halili in the new afternoon soap, “Sa Piling ni Nanay”. “Bale special participation lang ako diyan kasi may mangyayari sa character na ginagampanan ko,” he says. “But aside from that, kasama rin ako sa sexy comedy seen Thursday night, ‘A1 Ko Sa’yo’.”
In “Sa Piling ni Nanay”, he plays Javier, the son of Nova Villa as Matilda. He gets so disappointed when he finds out that his beauty queen wife, Katrina as Scarlet, is not capable of conceiving her own child. Because of this, they convince Yasmien Kurdi, a single mom, to agree to be a babymaker for them. She will carry Benjamin’s child and after delivering it, she will surrender the baby to Benjamin and Katrina.
“Maganda yung concept ng show”, adds Benjamin. “Hindi pa kasi masyadong accepted ang pagkakaroon ng surrogate mother dito sa atin. This week, Yasmien’s daughter from a past relationship dies in an accident and she gets so depressed. This at a time na buntis na siya sa baby na ibibigay niya sa amin ni Katrina, so we bring her home para maalagaan siya nang husto to make sure she’ll be okay until the baby is born. Para mapabilis ang panganganak niya, itutulak siya ni Katrina sa hagdan. She’ll give birth to a baby girl pero she’d change her mind about giving the baby to us. Itatakas niya ito at hahabulin ko siya and something tragic will happen to my character.”
Benjamin has also finished a new movie, “Dagsin”, for Cinemalaya, to be shown this August. He is paired for the first time with Janine Gutierrez in a love story set during the Japanese occupation of Manila. He becomes so depressed and disillusioned after he loses both his legs during the war in this inspiring story of redemption.
