ERIC QUIZON says that after “Pasion de Amor” which ran for several months, he opted to stop directing for a while. “Napagod talaga ako doon,” he says. “So I said I will work muna as an actor. So dumating nga itong bagong movie, ‘That Thing Called Tanga Na’, where I’m the one who says the title. After this, may gagawin akong bagong teleserye naman but I can’t reveal the details yet.”
He’s glad to be back with Regal Entertainment in “That Thing Called Tanga Na”. “Dito naman talaga ako nag-start as a Regal Baby. Dito rin ako unang nanalo ng maraming awards for my movie with Vilma Santos, ‘Pahiram ng Isang Umaga’. Dito ko rin ginawa yung movie with Kris Aquino where I played a gay role, ‘So Happy Together’, kaya happy talaga ako to do another movie for Mother Lily and also reunited with my ‘So Happy Together’ director na si Joel Lamangan.”
In “That Thing Called Tanga Na”, he plays the oldest member of their gay barkada. “Lawyer ako and also a businessman, pero mahilig sa showbiz. Ako rin ang pinakamayaman sa amin. Si Albie Casino ang papa ko rito at Papa Chu ang tawag niya sa akin. Then nalaman ko na lang, inaaswang pala siya ng isang chakang talent manager, played by Jerald Napoles. O, di ba may mga ganyang kuwentong nangyayari talaga sa showbiz?”
Did he enjoy his gay role? “Oo naman. When Direk Joel told me he needed me for this movie and he wants me to do the role of Papa Chu, I know I can’t say no at na-feel ko how much he trusts me so dapat galingan ko ang interpretation ko sa role na gusto niyang gawin ko. I’ve always had a good relationship with Direk Joel so I really trust him also. Maganda ang film as it shows the joys and pains that gays go through in their relationships. Let’s face it, gay people are some of the most creative citizens in the industry at mapipilay ang showbiz kung wala sila. At basically, mababait ang mga beki. Very compassionate. At lahat yan, mapapanood sa movie sa friendship namin ng mga kasama kong beki rito na sina Billy Crawford, Kean Cipriano and Martin Escudero. I enjoyed working with them at masaya kami lagi sa set. I did another gay film before, 'Markova', with my dad and my brother Epi.”
How did he feel when Zsa Zsa Padilla suddenly broke up her engagement to Conrad Onglao? “Siempre, sobrang nagulat ako kasi I was already invited to their wedding. But I’m happy that she’s okay now. I told her to just follow her heart. Kung ano ang feel niyang tamang gawin, gawin niya. Huwag niyang pilitin if she’d feel na hindi dapat. We’re not getting any younger so just enjoy life.”
