Yasmien Kurdi Does Her Own Research About Surrogacy To Prepare For Her Role As Surrogate Mom In 'Sa Piling Ni Nanay'

YASMIEN KURDI is so happy that the pilot week of “Sa Piling ni Nanay” rated very high. “Ang tagal kong walang regular show kasi the last one, ‘Yagit’, ended in July of 2015 pa, so halos one year,” she says. “Very challenging din ang role ko rito as I play a surrogate mother, someone na nagbuntis sa kondisyong ibibigay ang baby na ipinagbubuntis niya kina Katrina Halili at Benjamin Alves. Pero bago yun, grabeng struggle ng character ko nang magkasakit ang unang anak ko ng leukemia at kailangan ng bone marrow transplant. This is the reason kaya pumayag akong maging surrogate mother for Katrina dahil sa ibabayad niya sa’kin na ginamit sa pagpapagamot sa anak ko. Kaso, nung gumaling naman ang anak ko, namatay rin nang masagasaan, kaya isang palangganang luha ang lumabas sa mga mata ko rito.”

She believes it’s okay to resort to surrogacy if it would help a childless couple. “To prepare myself for my role, I researched sa internet about surrogacy. Accepted na yun ngayon in society at marami na who resorted to that, dito man o sa ibang bansa. Dito sa ‘Sa Piling ni Nanay’, ipapakita namin ang complications that might result with that kind of situation. Dito, itinakas ko ang baby and six years quickly passed. My daughter, Maya, is now played by child star Sofia Cabatay.”

Yasmien as Isabel hides with Sofia in an island. Her new partner, Antonio Aquitania as Rod, is an abusive man who beats her up. She becomes wanted for kidnapping Sofia and Mark Herras as Jonas and Nova Villa as Donya Matilda are looking for her. A kind doctor, Dex Quindoza as Daniel, sees Yasmien’s bruises and tries to help her and Maya escape from Antonio but he gets beaten up by Antonio and his men.
