JASON DY is the grand prize winner of “The Voice Season 2”. Born in Butuan City on June 19, 1990, his parents separated in 2003 and he lived with his mom who then had to work in Singapore.
During the auditions in November of 2014, he impressed coaches Lea Salonga, Sarah Geronimo and Apl de App with his rendition of Sam Smith’s “Stay with Me” using his skills in falsetto. He chose Sarah to be his personal coach and he went on to win the top prize.
How has his life changed since he won? “First, pinauwi ko na yung mom ko from Singapore so magkasama na kami, along with my younger brother. Nagkita na rin kami ulit ng father ko after I haven’t seen him for so long.”
Does his dad have a new family? “I don’t know. Hindi ko tinatanong at hindi rin naman namin napag-uusapan.”
He has also branched out into acting. “Yes, si Direk Ruel Bayani ang nag-offer to appear in ‘Be My Lady’, kasi ako yung kumanta ng theme song nila. Sabi ko, naku, hindi po ako marunong umarte. But he said, light lang yung role, so I did it and I appeared in three episodes.”
So would he want to act again? “Not now. Awkward pa ang acting ko. I need to take acting workshops muna. Focus muna ako sa music.”
On October 1, Saturday, Jason will appear “One Voice”, a concert at the Music Museum produced Hills and Dreams along with other “The Voice” winners, Klarisse de Guzman, his runnerup, and JK “Juan Karlos” Labajo, 3rd placer in “Voice Kids 1”. Directed by Frank Mamaril and with Marvin Querido as musical director, it will be a special treat to “The Voice” followers as this is the first time the three of them are performing together, brought to you by Silka, Circulan, Montosco, Happy Scrub, Jet7 Bistro, Fernando’s Bakery and others.
