Tom Rodriguez Has Two New Shows About To Start Airing: '#Like' This Saturday Afternoon & 'Someone To Watch Over Me' On Weeknights

TOM RODRIGUEZ is quite overworked these days but he’s not complaining. He has two new shows that are about to start airing. First is “#Like” that begins airing this afternoon right after “Eat Bulaga” and the other one is the primetime soap “Someone to Watch Over Me” that will start its telecast on Monday after “Descendants of the Sun”.

“Sobrang nakakapagod kasi galing ako sa magdamagang taping for ‘Someone to Watch’, tapos punta naman ako sa set ng ‘#Like’,” he says. “At least, magkaiba sila. Nagdadrama ako roon sa isa as a young man with early onset Alzheimer’s disease, then host naman ako noong isang show na sobrang saya talagang gawin.”

He’s working hard to help out his dad who’s suffering from lung cancer. “Hindi madali ang pinagdaraanan ng family namin but I know God will be with us in our struggles. Kahit nasa trabaho ako, naiisip ko ang father ko and I always say a prayer for him. I really work hard to help sa kanyang medical expenses. Kaya madali sa’kin ang drama scenes ko in ‘Someone to Watch’ ngayon, kasi I just have to think of him at may napaghuhugutan na ako agad ng emotions.”

He’s also thankful that his director, Maryo J. de los Reyes, and co-stars, Lovi Poe and Max Collins as his two leading ladies and Edu Manzano as his dad, are all very supportive of him. “Magagaling silang lahat. Direk Maryo really guides me well in my most demanding scenes and it helps kung ang kaeksena mo are the likes of Lovi, Max and Edu kasi very giving sila sa batuhan ng mga linya.”

He wants to emphasize that the concept for “#Like” is original. “It was inspired by the segments in ‘Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho’ showing unknown but homegrown talents singing or dancing. Pumapatok talaga ito sa viewers. Nakaka-90,000 like sa Facebook at nakaka-l million views sa youtube. Naisipan ng GMA Public Affairs na sayang naman ang talents na ito, so why not turn it into a competition among them. At ayun, so far we’ve taped three episodes na. The first episode that will air today is a dance competition among three male groups who dance on rooftops, ang Upgrade, Booty Boys and Team Horror. Nakakapagod ang taping kasi sa rooftops kami, nakabilad sa araw, but it’s worth it kasi ang gagaling nila talaga. Sa second episode, we’ll have singers naman and sa third, we’ll have senior citizens, like isang lolong sumasayaw ng Gangnam style from Baguio at lolang nagsu-zumba from Cebu. We’ll have special guests sa bawat episode to help the contestants. Sa first episode, our guests are Rodjun Cruz for Booty Boys, Aira Bermudez of Sexbomb for Upgrade and Ate Velma for Team Horror. Hosting a show like this is very challenging kasi kailangan na laging mataas ang level ng energy mo, but I’m enjoying it very much.”

Also in the show is child dancer Balang, who has been a frequent guest in “The Ellen Degeneres Show”. He will dance the Zumba with the audience.
