WE WERE with Rap Fernandez and his manager, Malou Choa Fagar, after having dinner with Mother Lily Monteverde a couple of nights ago. Rap has been posting photos of him and his older brother Mark Anthony Fernandez, along with their late dad Rudy Fernandez, on his FB account when they all look so young and innocent. Rap and his mom, Lorna Tolentino, along with younger brother Renz, are all praying for Mark. “I already sent him a lawyer,” says Rap. “We’ll all visit him soon. (Last Friday).”
But it turned out Alma Moreno, Mark’s mom, also got him a lawyer. She went to visit him in jail at Angeles city and they talked for about two hours. She was not able to visit him right away as her blood pressure shot up upon learning about his arrest. She also has to take anti-hypertensive meds before visiting him.
When reporters tried to interview her after her visit, she refused to talk and asked them to please respect their family’s privacy. But she was crying profusely over what happened to her eldest son, who turned 37 years old last January 18.
Most writers sympathize with Mark because he has generally good PR and is very pleasant when he’s interviewed by the press during presscons. He was never aloof or arrogant. And everyone thinks he’s just a victim of coming from a dysfunctional family. His parents, Alma and the late Rudy, separated when he was just a little boy and his mom also had relationships with the late Dolphy and Joey Marquez, who became his surrogate dads. So what do you expect would happen when he grew up looking like a damaged soul with plenty of emotional baggage?
He got into showbiz as a teener, had a tumultuous love affair with Claudine Barretto, got hooked on drugs, and later on went to rehab. But all throughout his ordeals, he remained very good looking and very talented as an actor. Great gifts from the Lord which he should not waste at all. We’re praying for his safety and may he be able to get out of his latest predicament with the Lord’s help. He was last seen in the movie “Ma Rosa” playing the role of a cop, not knowing he will get arrested by cops after a couple of months.
