TWO OF THE most promising young actors at the Kapuso Network are Derrick Monasterio and Kristoffer Martin, both good looking, both can act and sing well. Both of them now also have new shows: “Tsuperhero” for Derrick and “Hahamakin ang Lahat” for Kristoffer.
Derrick is very happy in playing his first superhero role so far. “Mahirap siya kasi mainit ang costume ko but I’m enjoying it kasi I get to do comedy and also action scenes,” he says. “This is based on an original concept of Michael V and I’m so thankful ako ang napiling gumanap nito. I play Nonoy, a jeepney driver so attached to his mom, Alma Moreno, who’s going blind. Isang alien from another planet, si Migz Cuaderno as Bokitox, ang nagbigay sa’kin ng superpowers. Noong una, I don’t like it kasi sagabal lang sa trabaho ko as tsuper yung pagiging superhero and I don’t really like rescuing people. But later on, nagustuhan ko na ang pagiging superhero ko.”
Who’s his favorite superhero as a child? “Si Superman. But for ‘Tsuperhero’, ang peg is ko Ryan Reynolds in ‘Deadpool’ kasi may pagka-comedy rin yun. Mas mahirap mag-comedy kaysa drama kasi you have to have perfect timing at nakakahiya kundi matatawa ang audience.”
Directed by L.A. Madridejos, “Tsuperhero” will start airing in November on Sundays after “24 Oras Weekend”. Also in the show are Bea Binene as Eva, Derrick’s love interest; Gabby Concepcion as Sgt. Cruz, the cop who’s Derrick’s ninong; Betong Sumaya as Julius, a small time crook, Philip Lazaro as Mang Pedi, owner of the carinderia where Derrick hangs out; Valentin as Polding, a cook; Annalyn Barro as Anna, the niece of Philip; Jemwell Ventinilla as Choy, a street kid; and Kuhol as Mong, a cigarette vendor.
So what’s the real score between him and Bea now? “I’m really glad that we’re paired again after ‘Hanggang Makita Kang Muli’ and ‘Vampire ang Daddy Ko’. We’re getting to know each other better everyday and we’re closer now than ever before. But friends pa rin lang kami.”
