AI AI DE LAS ALAS is celebrating her 52nd birthday on November 11 and that coincides with the mass of Bishop Antonio Tobias as she gets her Papal Award. Ai Ai has just arrived from the U.S. after doing shows in Texas and she’s just in time as her new movie, “Area”, opens today. It’s about the pathetic lives of lowly prostitutes in Angeles City and won the Special Jury Prize as Eurasia International Filmfest in Kazakhstan. It will soon compete at the Tallinn International Filmfest in Estonia.
“Kilala ako sa pagpapatawa pero dito, kinalimutan ko ang pagiging comedian at serious drama ang ginawa ko bilang aging prostitute na ipon nang ipon ng pera niya sa hangad niyang makarating sa America para hanapin ang anak niyang nawala noong pumutok ang Pinatubo in 1991,” she says. “I’m very proud of this movie na binusisi talaga ni Direk Louie Ignacio kaya sana, panoorin nyo.”
Since the movie is R-18 (without cuts) for its controversial scenes of nudity, it will be shown only in selected theatres like Robinsons Galeria, Robinsons Angeles City, Gateway, Greenhills, Fisher Mall in QC, Festival Mall Alabang, Market Place Mandaluyong and Ever Gotesco Commonwealth. Next week, they open in Isetann Recto, Gaisano Davao, Ultravista Cebu, Remar Cubao and Lianas in Pasig, Alabang and Calamba.
