“Okay naman,” he says. “But I won’t forget acting kasi diyan naman ako nag-start. Right now, I play a villain role as the leader of the syndicate in GMA-7’s ‘Oh My Mama’, which is ending in two weeks. There are offers for movies but I have to turn them down kasi paisa-isang project lang ako muna para hindi masyadong mahirap ang sked ko.”
How’s Ate Vi in congress? “Masipag siya. Nag-introduce na siya ng bills niya at sabi ko nga, isama niya ko. She also offered me to join her kapag may dumarating na reporters sa congress to interview her. May balak na mag-meeting kaming pito to do something for the local film industry.”
Doesn’t his playing a contravida role affect his being a congressman? “Hindi naman. Maski kasi noong konsehal ako, tuloy-tuloy rin ako as an actor. Tuwing nagliligid ako sa district ko, may comment sila. O, congressman, napanood ka namin, may pinatay ka sa 'Oh My Mama'. But they know I’m just playing a role.”
At 40, Yul says he already has an 18-year old son. “Maaga akong lumandi, e. Ha ha ha! Nang ma-discover ako ni Direk Maryo de los Reyes, hindi niya alam na may anak na ako. I have four kids, yung youngest is now 8 years old. Pero low profile lang ang family ko, for security reasons na rin.”
