'Working Beks' Starring John Lapus, TJ Trinidad, Edgar Allan Guzman, Prince Stefan And Joey Paras Pay Tribute To Various Kinds Of Gay Men Today

DIRECTOR CHRIS Martinez is currently gallivanting in Europe and his new movie, “Working Beks”, will be shown on November 23 without him. But he’s confident that his five stars, John “Sweet” Lapus, TJ Trinidad, Edgar Allan Guzman, Prince Stefan and Joey Paras who play the major lead roles in the story, will be enough to promote the film, which aims to portray real life situations and conditions happening to gays today. He says it’s his own homage to gays so, as a film project, it has a special meaning for him.

In the cast, the gays who have outed them himself in real life are John Lapus, Joey Paras and Prince Stefan. TJ and EA are straight. TJ is married with kids. His role was first offered to Dominic Ochoa, who later backed out.

Just like the late Ishmael Bernal’s original hit, “Working Girls”, the movie shows the lives of different kinds of gay men and happens in the course of only one day.

“Ako naman, movie actor in the story,” says EA. “Heartthrob ako na hinahangaan ng lahat at patok na patok ako with my ka-love team, si Bela Padilla. Pero I go into hiding kasi biglang may lumabas na sex video scandal na makakasira ng career ko.”

“I play a call center agent,” says Prince Stefan.

“I play an executive for a top company and for our product, an energy drink, ang endorser namin is Edgar Allan,” says TJ Trinidad. I have to be discreet. But I have a partner at meron kaming dalawang batang inampon namin.”

The one with the most interesting role for us is Joey Paras, who plays an ex-gay now trying his best to prove to himself that he’s a man. It’s said to be patterned after a gay entertainment reporter-TV host who also got married, had kids and became an evangelist.

“Bilang a rehabilitated gay, I have to remind myself constantly na lalaki ako,” says Joey.
