WE KNOW how crazy Pinoys are over beauty pageants and a lot of them are disappointed with Maxine Medina’s answer in the Q&A portion. To the question “What is the most significant change you have seen in the world in the last ten years?”, her answer is: "In the last 10 years of being here in the world, is that I saw all the people bringing in one event like this in Miss Universe. It is something big to us that we are one. As one nation, we are all together. Thank you. Maraming salamat po!"
It’s obvious that she’s trying to flatter the Miss Universe organizers but her reply was really so superficial, reflecting her own sensibility. She could have answered the effects of climate change or the impact of social media that have affected all of us, and yet she chose something that no interpreter, no matter how resourceful, can turn into something truly positive.
We’re sure Gloria Diaz, who said early on that she won’t win and got bashed for proving herself to be right, is now having the last laugh. And we all just have to move on. For next year, let’s just abandon the foolish idea of holding the Miss Universe here in our country again as our candidate will be once again so “dehado” if we’d be the host country.
Meantime, what’s in store for Pia Wurtzbach now that her reign is over? She was unsuccessful before in her first foray in local showbiz as Pia Romero. This time that she’s a Miss Universe title holder, will she gain more fans and be more successful? We’re sure ABS-CBN, where she started as a Star Magic discovery, will be getting her again and here’s hoping they can do magic for her to have a brighter showbiz career this time as an actress or a TV host.
But it seems Pia is more interested in cultivating a lovelife. Right after she won, she was linked to the sexiest doctor, which went nowhere. Now, she’s said to be in a relationship with racer Marlon Stockinger. So, let’s just wish her good luck in whatever she chooses to give more importance to.
