LYCA GAIRANOD won ‘The Voice Kids, Season 1’ contest in 2014 when she was 10 years old. Now a tween who turned 12 last November, she looks much more sophisticated than when she won: a sunburnt kid who helps her mom in scavenging for recyclable materials that they sell for a living. She says her family’s life has improved since then. “Meron na po kaming sariling bahay at sasakyan,” she says. “Nakapag-show na rin po ako sa ibang bansa, like sa Melbourne, Australia.”
She has also gone into acting, playing herself in her life story in “Maalaala Mo Kaya” and acting with other kids in the soap “Hawak Kamay”. “Tatlong Bibe” of Regis Films is her first movie and she’s glad to be acting with co-ABS-CBN stars Marco Masa of “Nathaniel” and Raikko Mateo of “Honesto”. “Enjoy po kaming tatlo sa shooting ng movie,” she says. “Masaya po kami sa set. Sina Victor Neri at Nikki Valdez po ang mga magulang ko rito.”
Lyca is competing once again as one of the child contestants in “Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids”. “Ang huhusay po ng mga kasama ko, like sina Awra Briguela, Ella Nympha at Alonzo Muhlach. Enjoy po kaming lahat.”
