BARBIE FORTEZA is her usual bungisngis self when we visited her on the set of her hit primetime show, “Meant to Be”, at the forested area in UP Arboretum. She’s supposed to be on a camping trip with her four leading men: Ken Chan, Ivan Dorschner, Jak Roberto and Addy Raj. Fans were all around them and when they were brought in to a tent where visiting writers interviewed them, the fans were just waiting outside to have their pics taken with the cast. Needless to say, their screams and shrieks were deafening.
“We’re so thankful to the warm reception given by viewers to our show,” says Barbie. “Kahit saan kami magpuntang mall show, grabe ang response. Kagagaling lang namin ng buong cast sa Davao at sobrang dami talaga ang dumating sa show namin. At ang dami pa raw nagre-request for our personal appearances. Sa March 12, we will be at SM San Jose del Monte and on March 19, sa Robinsons General Trias naman.”
The response to her bikini scenes is also great and some folks are saying she should now have pictorial for FHM who even compared her with Marian Rivera. “Ay naku, sobra naman po yun. Nakaka-flatter but she’s out of my reach naman, mahirap na siyang sundan. Basta happy ako sa words of approval nila. Pati mga kapwa ko artista like Ai Ai de las Alas, Valeen Montenegro at kung sinu-sino pa, they all congratulated me. But yung pagbibikini, hanggang dun lang yun sa show. Hindi naman po ako pang-men’s magazine. I think marami pa naman po akong maio-offer as an actress at tinanggap naman ako ng viewers na hindi nagpapa-sexy kasi, sa totoo lang po, wholesome po ako, e.”
Did she ask her parents before doing it? “Yes po, may approval sila. May bikini pong binigay sa’kin ang stylist namin, but the one I used sa pictorial, ang parents ko mismo ang bumili. Ang kumuha ng photos ko is our director himself, L.A. Madridejos, walang ibang photographer sa set. At first, sana, bikini top lang ako tapos, naka-shorts, pero ang dad ko mismo ang nagsabi, three weeks kang hindi kumakain para diyan, tapos, magso-shorts ka. So ayun, inalis ko yung shorts.”
She begged off when someone asked her about her ex-BF Kiko Estrada. “Please lang, tapos na po yun, nasabi ko na naman ang gusto kong sabihin, so move on na tayo.”
Last year, she did two movies where her performances both got positive reviews, “Laut” (for which she even won an international best actress award in Portugal) and “Tuos” (where she shared topbilling with Nora Aunor), isn’t she doing any new movie for 2017? “Gustong-gusto ko nga po. May offer ang Cinemalaya, but we think the project is too mature for me. Hindi ko kaya. So sana, may ibang mag-offer.”
Honestly, we think Mother Lily should make a project for her and her four leading men in Regal since they’re so hot these days. For sure, it’ll be a box office hit. Meantime, going back to their location shoot at the UP Arboretum, this comes close to their location shoot at the British Festival at Bonifacio Global City. It’s there where Barbie as Billie reminds Ivan as Ethan not to be so sweet to her cousin, Mika de la Cruz as Mariko, if he’s not really serious with her.
“Masyado kang pa-fall,” she tells Ivan. “Huwag mo siyang paasahin.” And this week, after her romantic episode with Jak Roberto, it will be the time for Addy Raj to take centerstage in wooing Barbie as Billie.
