MIKA DE LA CRUZ thought she’d have a hard time doing ‘Meant to Be’ as it’s her first show with GMA-7. “Pero hindi, madali akong nakapag-adjust kasi happy ang atmosphere sa set, good vibes lagi ang mga kasama ko, so na-relax ako agad at comfortable na ako with everyone kahit galing ako sa Dos,” she says. “Maganda ang bonding namin lalo na when do out of town shows to promote ‘Meant to Be’ kaya mabilis kaming naging friends ng mga kasama kong sina Barbie Forteza, Jak Roberto, Ivan Dorschner, Addy Raj at Ken Chan. Grabe ang dami ng fans ng show everywhere we go, sa mall shows man or maging sa social media.”
So she has no regrets on being a Kapuso actress? “Wala po talaga kasi mababait pati ang staff at lalo na ang director namin, si L.A. Madridejos. Alagang-alaga kami sa taping and even sa regional shows.”
How did she feel when some folks bashed her for leaving ABS-CBN? “Siempre, hindi naman po maiiwasan yun. Sinasabihan akong walang utang na loob kasi sa ABS ako nagsimula as a child star. Pero yung real fans ko from way back, they understand my decision na career move lang po ito and they stay with me. Talagang you cannot please naman everyone. Basta I’m happy with my decision to be with GMA kasi ang babait nilang lahat sa akin dito.”
Is she happy with her role as Mariko in “Meant to Be”? “Okay naman po kasi hindi naman siya talaga kontrabida like what others thought. Magpinsan kami ni Barbie rito as Billie at okay naman ang samahan namin. May sariling mga hugot si Mariko tungkol sa buhay at positive naman ang pagtanggap ng viewers sa kanya.”
This week in “Meant to Be”, the rivalry of the four guys over the attention of Barbie as Billie is slowly becoming more intense. Addy Raj as Jai has an edge because he got Barbie to be his coach in teaching him Tagalog. In turn, Ken Chan as Yuan is getting more and more grumpy when he sees Barbie being more close to the other hunks than him, as he cannot express his own feelings for her. Addy suggests that they have a team building exercise and so they all go camping to have more intimate bonding.
