ABS-CBN HOSTED a big presscon for what Director Jillmer Dy calls the ongoing championship week of “Tawag ng Tanghalan” in “It’s Showtime”, with finals to be held this Saturday, March 11, at Resorts World. The top ten finalists were presented to the press. From the 1st quarter come Maricel Callo of Pagadian City and Gidget de la Llana of Calamba, Laguna. From the 2nd quarter come Marielle Montellano of Mandaue, Cebu and Pauline Agupitan from Lipa City, Batangas. Then there’s also Eumee Capile of Bulacan, Noven Bellaza of Negros Occidental, Sam Mangubat of Batangas, Carl Malone Montecido (who’s born visually impaired) of Bacolod City, and Ultimate Resbak winners Froilan Canlas of Bato Camarines Sur and Rachel Gabreza of Makati.
When each of them was asked during the presscon who they think is their most formidable rival, the group pointed to Froilan Canlas and Eumee Capile, who are also our personal choices. They not only sing well but, personality wise, we think they have better chances of making it big later in showbiz if they’d win. The grand prize winner will take home P2 million cash and also wins a house and lot.
“It’s Showtime” is now going on its 8th year on the air and it has introduced a lot of innovative segments for the viewers, including “Trabahula”, “Dancing in Tandem: Nagmahal, Nasaktan, Nagsayaw”, “KemboTitas”, “Sinong Nanay Mo”, “Next Tough Model” and introduced new hosts like Amy Perez, Mariel Rodriguez and Joey Marquez. Then there are the dancing attractions of the Hashtags to thrill female viewers and the GirlTrends to make male viewers swoon. These groups performed during the presscon and they were all well applauded.
