What Is The Real Reason Why The Shooting Of The Sharon Cuneta-Gabby Concepcion For Star Cinema Is Being Delayed?

THE SHARON CUNETA-Gabby Concepcion reunion movie for Star Cinema is said to be hanging up in the air even if Ate Shawie has already lost a lot of weight. Gabby is the one who’s put in a bad light as he’s the one being blamed for the project’s being in limbo. There are reports that Gabby has jacked up his price and is asking for an exorbitant P10 million talent fee, which his camp has denied.

Another report says Gabby said Sharon needs him more than he needs her because he has an active career at the moment and has maintained his leading man status after doing hit shows like “Because of You” and the current “Ika-6 na Utos” which is really rating very high. He’s also in “Tsuperhero”, whereas Sharon is now just a judge or coach in various reality TV and talent search shows.

Again, Gabby’s camp has vehemently denied they ever said such a thing. But it’s true that he’s busy taping two shows these days and that can be a valid reason why he cannot start shooting a new movie yet.

No doubt that there are still Sharon-Gabby fans who will be happy to see them together again. But now that they’re in their 50s, they can definitely no longer do the same kind of “kilig’ romances that they did in the early 80s like “Dear Heart”, “PS I Love You” and “My Only Love”. We distinctly remember the Amalia Fuentes-Romeo Vasquez love team, who were also married to each other but eventually separated just like Sharon and Gabby.

They did plenty of hit films in the 60s for Sampaguita Pictures and Tagalog Ilang-Ilang Productions, like "Ako'y Iyong-Iyo", "Sa Muling Pagkikita" and "Kung Kita'y Kapiling". But Romeo went to live in the U.S.A. and was not seen for a while. In 1976, he came back and did a reunion film with Amalia, "Puede Ako, Puede Ka Pa Ba?", directed by Elwood Perez, and it was a hug blockbuster.

The same thing can surely happen for the Sharon-Gabby reunion movie. But for sure, they will have to be working with current younger stars to help pull in today's millennial viewers. Here’s hoping the Sharon-Gabby reunion flick will still push through since the last film they did as a love team was “Tayong Dalawa”, directed by Laurice Guillen in 1992 or exactly 25 years ago.
