ANA CAPRI looks so sexy in her body-hugging black gown when she received the best supporting actress trophy for “Laut” from producer Baby F. Go of BG Productions. We tell her we’re not surprised she won at the ASEAN International Filmfest Awards in Sarawak, Malaysia as she was really so effective as the negligent mother of impoverished Badjao children in “Laut”.
“And to think muntik ko nang hindi tanggapin ang pelikulang ito,” she says. “When the line producer, Dennis Evangelista, contacted me, I said no kasi may ginagawa akong soap noon. E, ang layo pa ng location shooting ng movie, sa Pampanga, tapos tinawaran pa niya ang talent fee ko. Then he got back at me at sabi, ikaw talaga ang gusto ko for this role at kailangan mong tanggapin ito kasi it’s an important film. So kinausap ko yung mga tao sa soap at pinayagan naman ako. Tinanggap ko rin yung discounted rate niya sa TF ko. At yun, it paid off, nanalo ako ng international acting award. So salamat kay Dennis for giving this role to me.”
How come she was not able to go with the Philippine delegation to Malaysia to receive her trophy in person? “E, nataon kasi, magpapaospital ako for some surgery. Di na puedeng iurong. But I’m really so honored na akong nanalo kasi doon sa best supporting actress category, may mga kalaban akong foreigners, pero may kalaban din akong local actresses, sina Cherry Pie Picache and Sue Prado, na parehong magagaling. The fact that I won, tumaas talaga ang confidence ko sa kakayahan ko.”
