CHARICE Pempengco or Jake Zyrus painted a not so lovely portrait of her own mom, Raquel (as played by Dina Bonnevie), in the recent “Maalaala Mo Kaya” episode on her life. Raquel quickly complained that she was made to look like a villain, a parasite who’s only after Jake’s earnings during her heydays. She says it’s all lies and is now threatening to file a case in court against Jake and ABS-CBN.
But Jake’s grandma, Teresa, sided with Jake, saying Raquel has always been like that even when Lola Teresa was an OFW in Saudi sending money to Raquel. Both the mother and the lola are currently being interviewed by the press and they’re obviously enjoying it. They also express freely what they feel on social media, texting their hostile feelings with alacrity.
Of course, all this circus of shameful brouhaha is being lapped up by the public with glee, aided and abetted by the media as we all love watching celebrities display their linen in public. This has happened before to Pia Wurtzbach and her half siblings. And more recently, to Comelec Chairman Andy Bautista and his estranged wife na pinagpistahan din ng press at social media.
There are far better things to do than talk about other people’s dirt but apparently, lots of people feel good and experience some kind of satisfaction in talking about the misfortune of others. After all, such embarrassing personal happenings remind us that they are just like us, ordinary mortals with feet of clay and we feel better that the shameful things are happening to them, not to us.
But it all boils down to the question of whether it will help push the career of Charice in his new identity as Jake Zyrus. Sure, she’s being talked about right now, but we all know the novelty of it all will eventually die down, so what will happen to him?
Maybe she should consult Rustom Padilla who became BB Gandanghari since, more or less, they’re following the same path. BB also had her glory days before, being interviewed by everyone about his transitioning from man to transwoman. She got some assignments as BB, but the novelty eventually wore off. The big question is: where is BB Gandanghari now?
