DEVON SERON is the first local actress to be paired with Korean actors in a movie that is a co-production between local and Korean film companies, "You With Me" that opens on September 27. This is in contrast to Heart Evangelista who’s paired with a Korean actor in a TV show produced by GMA-7. Devon is paired with Korean drama actors Hyun Woo and Jin Ju Hyung, co-produced by Gitana and RR Films with Film Line Korea and Seoul Film Commission, written by Shine Ricafort and directed by Rommel Ricafort. So how did Devon get the role?
“I learned from a friend na may audition and I said, sama nyo naman ako,” she says. “Sobrang saya ko nang ako ang makuha. The film is 80% shot on location in Korea and I was able to see the most beautiful places there. Para akong batang napapa-wow dahil sa ganda ng mga lugar where we shot the film. I play Kim Soriano, a rich girl pero sobrang strict ng parents ko, Tonton Gutierrez and Assunta de Rossi, so tumakas ako and went to Korea on my own. I learned so much from the Korean staff and actors. Ang babait nilang lahat, maalaga, at inaalalayan nila talaga ako kaya nakapag-adjust ako agad sa kanila, kahit may language barrier. Sa weather ako nahirapan, kasi ginawin talaga ako. Kahit sinasabi nilang mainit na, naka-jacket pa rin ako.”
“You With Me” is a big break for Devon, who grew up in a depressed area in Cebu 24 years ago. She was 4th placer in PBB Teens 2010, where James Reid won. She’s the original ka-love team of James Reid after PBB when they were paired in “Good Vibes”. She then did several episodes of MMK and GMA-7’s “Maynila” and also played supporting roles in “Angelito”, “Apoy sa Dagat”, “Maria Mercedes”, “Moon of Desire”, “You’re My Home”, “Be My Lady”.
Some of her co-stars in these shows appeared in a special video shown dursing the presscon of “You With Me” to wish her good luck in her Korean movie, including James Reid, Daniel Matsunaga, RK Bagatsing, Joseph Marco, Erich Gonzales and Sofia Andres, along with her Korean leading men.
We ask Direk Rommel Ricafort why they chose Devon to be their star? “Ang daming nag-audition, maraming mestiza,” he says. “But we want someone na mukha talagang Filipina ang hitsura. Someone said, yung model sa My Phone commercial and when we saw Devon, we felt na bagay siya sa role. We sent her pictures and video to the Korean producers and they approved of her.”
How did she find her Korean leading men? “They’re very charming. Maraming natutulala sa kanila sa shooting. Nag-military training sila, so they’re very disciplined, very polite. Si Hyun Woo speaks English so we can communicate, pero mas marami kaming eksena ni Jin Ju Hyung so naging close din kami.”
She says she is NBSB (no boyfriend since birth). What if they would court her? “Why not? Mababait naman sila. They adapt to our culture so nagmamano pa sila sa parents ko. They’re coming over soon to help me promote the movie so abangan nyo ang pagdating nila.”
