GINA ALAJAR just left for Canada to join the 42nd Toronto International Filmfest, Contemporary World Cinema section, where her film “Madilim ang Gabi” (“Dark is the Night”), written and directed by Adolf Alix, is an official entry. This is Gina’s second indie film completed this year after “Nabubulok”, an entry in the recent Cinemalaya Filmfest.
The story is inspired by Operation Tokhang and the government's war on drugs. You can hear the prominent voice over of Pres. Duterte in the trailer telling drug addicts and traffickers: “I will kill you!” Gina plays the role of a mother searching for her missing child, played by Felix Roco.
Also in the star-studded cast are Phillip Salvador as Gina’s husband, Cherie Gil, Iza Calzado, Angel Aquino, Rosanna Roces, Cherry Pie Picache, Anita Linda, Bembol Roco, Perla Bautista, Elizabeth Oropesa, Alessandra de Rossi, Sid Lucero, Jason Abalos and Zanjoe Marudo, all of whom have appeared in past Adolf Alix films and they all worked in the movie just for “the love of Adolf”.
Adolf has also finished the docu-drama about martial law he did for GMA News and Public Affairs for the 45th anniversary commemmoration of martial law. This is the story of activist Boni Ilagan who was tortured then by the military, as played by Alden Richards, with Rocco Nacino as writer Pete Lacaba who was imprisoned with Boni, along with Bianca Umali and Gina Alajar. This will be shown on GMA on September 17 at “Sunday Night Box Office”.
