“This movie is really a big break for me kasi sa ABS-CBN, puro supporting roles ang ginagampanan ko,” she says. “In ‘The Debutantes’, sa character ko iikot ang story, but magandang break din ito sa lahat ng mga kasama ko kasi kami namang lahat ang debutantes dito referred in the title, hindi lang ako.”
How did she tackle the role of being a nerdy outcast? “Mahirap. Dito ko naranasan yung umiiyak ako for seven hours nang tuloy-tuloy, walang putol. But with the help of our director, Prime Cruz, I think naitawid ko naman nang maayos yung eksena. I can relate to Kate kasi naulila rin siya sa magulang niya. I’ve also experienced the loss of a loved one when my father died when I was 17, which was the reason kaya hindi ako nakapag-debut kasi we’re in mourning. Dream ko pa namang maisayaw ako ng daddy ko sa debut ko.”
How did director Prime Cruz choose Sue for the role of Kate? “She took the audition,” says Prime. “Matagal yung process kasi we made sure we got the right young actresses for the five pivotal roles. When I first met Sue, na-feel ko sa pag-uusap namin na medyo baliw siya and kailangan yun sa role, yung may toyo. I believe na wala namang magaling na walang konting pagkabaliw, so she nailed the role.”
Off cam, is it true that Sue is now playing beautiful music with Boyband Ph member Joao Constancia? “We’re dating. Mabait siya. He has met my parents and I’ve also met his. But at this point, wala akong masyadong time for a relationship. Sayang naman ang opportunities na dumarating sa akin these days. Aside from ‘The Debutantes’, may uumpisahan pa akong isang bagong soap, so I’d really be busy and my career is my main priority now.”
