JOURDANNE CASTILLO is a talent of Viva Artist Agency who has appeared in TV shows like “Tasya Fantasya”, “Wattpad Presents” and “Tukhang”, and in movies like Viva’s “Para sa Hopeless Romantic” and “Tragic Theatre”. She also used to be part of a girl group called Vixxens and recorded a single, “Di Na Bale”.
She’s now given her biggest break playing the lead role opposite AJ Muhlach. This is in Cignal TV, local TV’s best selling pay TV provider, and Sari Sari Channel’s period horror drama series about aswangs set during the Spanish regime, “Tabi Po”, aired Friday nights at 8 PM.
“I play Salome,” she says. “Love interest po ako ni AJ, who plays Elias, a young aswang na hindi pa lubusang tanggap ang katauhan niya. Inaabuso po ako ng isang pari rito, played by Archie Adamos. Ginawa niya akong sex slave niya. Tutulungan ako at ipagtatanggol ni AJ. Nagpapasalamat po ako sa Viva for giving me this very good break at kasama rin po namin dito sina Luis Alandy and Phoebe Walker who play older aswangs.”
The series is adapted from the popular graphic novel by Mervin Malonzo that won the National Book Awards for Graphic Literature. How different is it from other aswang films and TV shows?
“‘Tabi Po’ shows love and beauty amidst the horrific lives of the creatures we know as aswangs,” says the show’s director, Paul Basinillo. “It traces their origins. Saan ba sila nanggaling? What is their purpose? Is there more to the killings and bloodshed typically associated with them? Mga untold stories about these dark creatures of the night ang ipapakita namin dito sa viewers so humanda na kayong matakot nang husto.”
