PEOPLE are still talking about why the last movies of comedians Ai Ai de las Alas and Empoy Marquez flopped. Ai Ai had a hit earlier this year, Regal’s “Our Mighty Yaya”, that Mother Lily even hosted a victory party for her. As for Empoy, we all know his “Kita Kita” raked in about P350 million no less. So what went wrong? A showbiz pundit says what made Ai Ai’s “Bes and the Beshies” unattractive to viewers is the fact that its publicity centered on her coming wedding this December.
“Instead of talking about the movie, lahat ng writeups tungkol dito, puro yung tungkol sa wedding niya ang pinag-uusapan and Ai Ai herself knows that when her career suffered before, it’s because of her love affair then with her second husband,” says our analyst. “Dapat, Ai Ai should have been more discreet na lang about her new love affair kasi kahit anupang sabihin, parang hindi rin aprubado ang mga tao rito. Ayan tuloy, naapektuhan ang latest movie niya.”
And what about Empoy? “Sayang all the gains he made in his career with ‘Kita Kita’, parang itinapon lang niya rito sa ‘The Barker’ na nawala agad sa sinehan. And as it is, one hour and 15 minutes lang ito.
