KAPUSO YOUNG stars Mikee Quintos and Mikoy Morales get the biggest breaks in their careers in “Sirkus”, the new GMA-7 Sunday night telefantasya where they play fantastic circus performers. This is directed by indie director Zig Dulay based on a concept by GMA News and Public Affairs’ Program Manager Angeli Atienza. Zig directed acclaimed films like “Bambanti”, “M: My Mother’s Maiden Name” and “Paglipay” that has won awards here and in international film festivals.
“Sirkus” will start airing on January 21 at 6:10 PM, replacing “Roadtrip”. Zig describes it as a magical show, “tunggalian ng salamangka” or competition in magic. Mikee and Mikoy will play twins named Miko and Mia working for the circus troup called Sirkus Salamanca. They have a special power and Cherie Gil as the villainous La Ora schemes to snatch it away from them.
“I was overwhelmed and excited when I was told that I’d do this project,” says Mikoy, who’s better known for doing comedy in shows like “Bubble Gang” and “Pepito Manaloto”, but also showed good dramatic acting in indie films like “Hustisya” and “Four Days”. “It’s an honor to be working with a great actress like Ms. Cherie Gil na judge namin noon sa ‘Protege’. My admiration for her has grown over the years and she’s really a treasure in the industry. It’s also great working with our director, Zig Dulay, na parang epic movie ang treatment sa show, lalo na sa special effects and CGI na world class talaga ang dating.”
Mikoy and Mikee are supported in the show by Zoren Legaspi and Angelu de Leon as their parents; Gardo Versoza as Leviticus, the leader of Sirkus Salamanca; Chariz Solomon as the fortuneteller who can see the future, Astra; Andre Paras as the muscleman, Martel; Sef Cadayona as the contortionist acrobat, Al; Klea Pineda as the fire-breathing Zefira; and comedians Tetay as Luca and Gerry Acao as Facundo, La Ora’s most trusted cohorts.
