“Siempre po, I’m flattered kasi big star at beauty queen sila,” she says. “Sobrang blessed naman ako kapag sinasabing kamukha ko sila. Pero siempre, mas gusto ko pa ring makilala ako as myself, bilang si Kate Valdez.”
How is it working with Ai Ai as her mom in “Sherlock Jr.”? “Napakasarap niyang kaeksena kasi masaya siya sa set, approachable at napakagaling pang umarte. Kung minsan, starstruck ako’t natutulala sa husay niya sa pagko-comedy I have to remind myself to focus sa eksena para hindi ako matawa.”
How about Ruru? “Nagkasama na kami sa ‘Encantadia’ kaya comfortable na ako sa kanya. Maalaga siya sa mga katrabaho niya.”At 17, she says she has never had a boyfriend. “It’s my own decision. I don’t think I’m ready to commit myself to anyone.”
So who’s her showbiz crush? “Si Kuya Gil Cuerva kasi nagkasama kami sa workshop at mabait siya. Naging leader siya ng team namin in the workshop and okay siya.”
So would she choose Gil to be her leading man in the event GMA-7 launches her to stardom? “Naku, sana nga magkatotoong i-launch ako. But I’m just starting, so I have to hone my craft first and prove muna na worthy akong i-launch. At kapag nangyari yun, I’ll leave it to management to choose kung sino sa tingin nila ang babagay sa’kin. Ako naman po, I’m willing to work with anyone.”
