Even GMA’s original discoveries in the first and second batches of Starstruck are now in their 30s. Among those in the mid-20s, only Alden Richards shows some promising durability.
We all know there’s a premium on youth when it comes to being showbiz celebrities, so their talent development people should be on the lookout for more new leads and younger idols. These days, their list of young male leads with great potential include Derrick Monasterio, Ruru Madrid, Ken Chan, Jak Roberto, Kiko Estrada, Jeric Gonzales, Andre Paras, Miguel Tanfelix. Currently missing in action are Juancho Trivino and Kristoffer Martin, who both need more exposure.
They should definitely push for Migo Adecer as he shows a lot of promise as he can act, sing, dance and do hosting. Gil Cuerva seems promising also, but he still has to hone his craft as an actor. There are also a lot of promising ones in their One Up boyband so GMA Artist Center should take a second look. For contravida roles, they have Pythos Ramirez and Rob Moya.
Among the females, the ones most likely to make it are Barbie Forteza, Sanya Lopez and Bianca Umali. Those in their 20s who can still do lead roles include international title holders Megan Young and Winwyn Marquez, also mestiza beauties Jackie Rice and Kim Domingo.
Thea Tolentino and Stephanie Sol are both very good as contravidas. The promising ones for us among the newcomers include Pauline Mendoza, Klea Pineda, Kate Valdez and Arra San Agustin.
The advantage of ABS-CBN is they have Pinoy Big Brother where new potential stars are continually being introduced. Some of them make it and some of them don’t and quickly fade away, but the important thing is they have a vehicle where they can regularly discover and mine new talents.
