ERICH GONZALES is so fulfilled that after her hit movie in the recent Metro Filmfest, “Siargao”, she’s now in the cast of another potential hit, “The Significant Other”, a love triangle flick where she plays the controversial role of the other woman and which opens this Wednesday. So, how is it to be the “kabit”?
“Okay naman,” she says. “Very challenging. Na-explain namang mabuti why my character, Nicole, had an affair with Tom Rodriguez. Hindi ko kasi alam na married na siya kay Lovi Poe kasi they kept their marriage a secret para hindi mag-suffer ang career ni Lovi as the country’s top model. But in real life, of course, I will never settle to being just the number two.”
So is she and Lovi okay now after their much talked about tiff that resulted from shooting a violent slapping scene? “Yes, we’re okay. We’re super good friends. What happened naman was just an accident. Nawindang lang kami kasi sobrang intense. Pero hindi naman namin pareho ginusto yung sumabit ang kamay ko sa hikaw niya at nagdugo. Hindi ako napikon like what others wrote. What we did is parte lang ng work namin at ibinigay lang namin ang hinihingi ng eksena at ni Direk Joel Lamangan. We just delivered what he ordered us to do.”
Is it true she calls Lovi now Lodi? “Yes, idol ko kasi siya sa kanyang diligent workouts. Perfect fitspiration ang kanyang figure. And I’m really happy to be given the chance to work with her kasi nga we’re connected with different networks. Sa mga eksena namin sa movie, magkaaway kami, laging galit sa isa’t isa, but off cam, masaya kami.”
Her ex-BF Daniel Matsunaga is very open in posting his photos with his new girlfriend, a Polish model, on social media. She, in turn, is being linked to a handsome non- showbiz guy named Mateo Lorenzo, who reportedly comes from a well to do family. What’s the real score between them?
“I remain single po. Ang dami kong trabaho right now, so I don’t think I’m ready na pumasok sa isang bagong relationship. Trabaho talaga ang siyang only priority ko ngayon. Love can wait, but the opportunities coming my way cannot. They are great blessings, so sa career muna po ako. I believe naman that in God’s perfect time, mangyayari rin yung magkaroon ako ng bagong lovelife, but I will make sure muna na kilalang-kilala na namin talaga ang isa’t isa before I commit again.”
She’s now more daring and showing more skin in her projects. Is this a deliberate career move? “Siempre po, we’re not getting any younger naman, so graduate na tayo sa pabebe roles. Teenager pa ako when I first joined showbiz, but now, 27 na ako. Hindi na puede yung paulit-ulit na pa-cute at tweetums, dapat may variation din. At kung hindi ko gagawin ngayon, kailan pa? Kaya ready na talaga ako to play more mature and more demanding roles.”
