Regine Velasquez Travels All Over The Country To Look For The Next Superstar In 'The Clash', The New GMA-7 Reality Show She Is Hosting

REGINE VELASQUEZ now has time to focus on the new reality show that she’ll be hosting after the huge success of her “#PaMore” Valentine concert at the MOA. “The Clash” is the Kapuso Network’s newest superstar search this 2018 on GMA-7. Auditions will be held nationwide and the first rigorous leg has just been staged in Cebu last weekend at the Gaisano Island Mall Mactan from 10 AM to 9 PM.

Regine says this contest is open to all male and female Filipinos, age 16 and above, but unlike most singing competitions, “The Clash” is open to both amateur and professional performers," she adds. “No limitations ang ‘The Clash’. Kahit professional ka na pero hindi naman nagtagumpay ang career mo, puede kang sumubok uli in this contest. Who knows baka dito ka na suwertihin? If you’ve joined other contests before, puede ka uling sumali rito kasi over time, mas nahasa ka na, mas gumaling ka na and has gained more experience. Naiiba ito from all the singing competitions GMA had before. Meron kasi itong part na may one-on-one na face off. Pipili ka kung sino sa tingin mo ang kaya mong talunin as the best contender."

The next venues for auditions will be in Davao, Baguio and Metro-Manila. It’s scheduled to start airing at the middle of this year and will be aired twice a week for 14 weeks. Sitting with Regine in the auditions to screen and listen to all the contestants are Directors Bert de Leon and Louie Ignacio, with singer-composer Jay Durias.

“The Clash” panel of advisers/jurors during its actual airing will be composed of Ai Ai de las Alas, Christian Bautista and Lani Misalucha. It will be recalled that the song competitions Regine hosted before produced bright talents like Sarah Geronimo from “Star for a Night” in 2003, Rachelle Ann Go from “Search for a Star” in 2004, then “Pinoy Pop Superstar” that produced the likes of Jonalyn Viray, Gerald Santos and Aicelle Santos who all made a name for themselves.

Regine notes that the taste of the public seems to have changed through the years. “Dati kasi, puro biritera ang gusto nila. But today’s generation, mas gusto nila yung more relaxed kind of singing. Hindi kailangang puro birit na lang. Mas importante na rin yung presence ng singer and the way he or she interprets and performs the song. For ‘The Clash’, we also want someone who can also go into acting later. They’ll also get a lof training and mentoring on how to sing, dance and perform correctly during the actual run of the show. Marami silang matututuhan, so they should be open to learning. At maraming pinto ang maaaring magbukas para sa kanila, aside from the P1 million cash prize. E, noong kapanahunan ko sa ‘Ang Bagong Kampeon’, walang mga ganyan kaya mas masuwerte talaga ang mga kontesero’t kontesera ngayon.”

So does she think they’ll find the new Regine Velasquez in “The Clash”? “Naku, tigilan na yang mga the next next na yan. Noon mo pa naririnig kung sino raw ang susunod kina Martin or Gary, who’ll be the next Sharon or Kuh. Wala naman, di ba? Kasi nandiyan pa rin sila. Kaya walang the next Regine. Walang the next whoever, whatever. Bawat bagong singer, kailangang magkaroon ng sarili niyang tatak, ng sarili niyang identity. You have to make your own mark in your career, in the whole industry, in your own generation.”

Regine wants to remind applicants in the next round of auditions to bring original and duplicates of their birth certificate plus two recents photos, plus two songs (English and Filipino) with their own instruments of minus one.
