Now, 13 years later, he helps launch Yassi Pressman in her first solo flick, “Ang Pambansang Third Wheel”. This is his third movie with Viva Films after “The Gifted” and “Camp Sawi”. “Yassi doesn’t actually need any help as she’s already there, so popular because of ‘Probinsyano’,” says Sam. “She’s very talented. She sings, she dances, she does hosting and is also a good actress. I like her being goofy and always full of energy. And she doesn’t mind kahit papangitin siya sa movie.”
It’s not the first time they work together in a movie. “We were first cast together in ‘Camp Sawi’, but we had only one scene together and it was not even shot na magkasama kami kasi paalis na siya to return for Manila. So dito lang kami talaga sa ‘Pambansang Third Wheel’ nagkakilala nang husto.”
He just broke up with his model girlfriend, Marie Jasmine. Wasn’t he attracted to Yassi enough to court her? “I am attracted to her. The first time I saw her in a Metro filmfest entry, crush ko na siya. She’s my type. But I just came from a breakup. Two years din kami and I thought kami na, but hindi pala. So I have to do some moving on muna before I get into another relationship.”
At 33, he says he’s ready to get married. “I’m no longer looking for just a girlfriend. I want someone I can take to the altar to be my wife, so I can settle down and start a family, hopefully in the next two or three years. But very important yung right connection between us, dapat we have great chemistry and she should be God-fearing.”
