TOM RODRIGUEZ feels proud to be part of GMA-7’s new drama-thriller, “The Cure”, that will replace “Sherlock Jr.” on GMA Telebabad starting on April 30. He plays Greg Salvador, married to Jennylyn Mercado as Charity.
“But this is not your usual love story or romance,” he says. “Ang mother ko rito, played by Irma Adlawan, is diagnosed to have a terminal illness and we’re desperate to find treatment so I stole an experimental drug made by Jaclyn Jose as Dr. Evangeline Lazaro in the laboratory where I work as a clinical researcher. But the drug turns out to be dangerous, starting an infection that spreads all over the city. So we all have to search for a cure before everyone else gets infected, becomes rabid and violent.”
Director Mark Reyes says he’s been pitching the show to management since 2012 and he’s glad to finally get the green light. “This is something different, something big, kasi ngayon pa lang may local show na ganitong science fiction combined with being an action thriller,” he adds. “But at its core, it’s the story of a family nina Tom and Jennylyn and their efforts to survive sa gitna ng lahat ng kaguluhan. It’s fresh and new and the whole essence of a pulse-pounding thriller is here as every episode will be full of tension, lalo na yung mga eksena ng habulan at may gorilla pang involved dito na combination of CGI and animatronics.”
Also in the cast are LJ Reyes as Katrina who’s Tom’s colleague, Mark Herras as the contravida Darius, Arra San Agustin as Mark’s sister, Ken Chan as Dr. Josh who’s in love with Arra, Jay Manalo as the head of the lab’s security Fernan, Diva Montelaba as a vlogger who causes panic in the populace, Ronnie Henares as the greedy and scheming lab boss and child star Leanne Bautista as the daughter of Jen and Tom.
