The two stars are reunited in a new movie and maybe Liza could convince Viva Films to make it an entry in the 2nd PPP this coming August so that history can repeat itself for them. She stresses that the PPP is a platform for exhibition for all kinds of films, both mainstream, independent and even regional films. It's nationwide and filmmakers from all parts of the country can submit their FINISHED or COMPLETED films that reflect Filipino sensibility and culture for screening.
This year’s selection committe is composed of two award-winning directors, Joey Reyes and Carlitos Siguion Reyna, film editor Manet Dayrit, cinematographer Lee Briones and actress Cherie Gil. They aim for maximum promotion so they’re attending the Lucban Pahiyas Fiesta on May 15, the Obando Fertility Fiesta on May 18, the Sangyaw Festival in Tacloban on May 30 to promote PPP. Deadline for submission of entries is June 15 and announcement of the 8 chosen lucky finalists will be on July 5.
All weekends of July, the casts of the selected films will do a mall caravan, for August, they’ll have a campus tour, with Pistahan Motorcade and Premiere Night on August 14. There will be a segment for youth oriented films, Sine Kabataan headed by Aiza Seguerra, with a running time of two to five minutes. 8 selected films will be shown with the full length entries in cinema during the PPP.
The films will be shown in theatres nationwide from August 15 to 21, with thanksgiving night on August 19 where three winners will be announced: Audience Choice, Critics’ Choice Award and Special Jury Prize. Inquiries on how you can join should be addressed to the Film Development Council of the Philippines, 855 T.M. Kalaw St, Ermita, Manila with tel. No. 256-9948, local 104 ℅ Joy de Guzman. You can also email them at info@fdcp.ph. On August 17 and 18, there will be a film industry conference where all film personnel are invited to join. The finalists will be assisted so they can be shown in international film festivals and get international distributors and agents.
Will Liza Dino eventually run for public office? “Naku, hindi po!” she says. “I’m more interested in helping the local film industry kaysa pumasok sa politics.”
Well, good for you, Liza D. And for the movie industry!
