The 20-year old showbiz newbie says he used to be so shy. His celebrity parents, former actress Maricel Laxa and broadcaster Anthony Pangilinan, never expected he’d be an actor someday.
“Social media helped me to open up,” he adds. “Kasi, dahil sa supporters ko in social media, I started enjoying interacting with them. Unti-unti, nawala yung pagkamahiyain ko. I realized it’s a great feeling kapag napapasaya mo ang ibang tao.”
So he now likes acting? “Yes, I’ve learned to love it. Kasi when you see people smiling, it means you have a positive effect on them and it gives you a great feeling.”
His mom is an award-winning actress. “I know, but she never allowed us to watch her past films. Once, I bought DVD’s of her old movies and gave them to her. She said that she should be present when we, her kids, watch it. The first movies of her I want to watch are ‘Minsan Lamang Magmamahal’ and ‘Iisa Pa Lamang’, for which she won best supporting actress awards. Both of them are directed by Direk Joey Reyes, who is now our director in ‘Walwal’.”
How is it working with Elmo Magalona, Jerome Ponce and Kiko Estrada as his barkada in “Walwal”? “It’s great. First shooting day pa lang, nag-click na kami agad lahat. So yung friendship that we show in the movie, very authentic yun. We really became good friends while shooting ‘Walwal’ and you will be able to feel our good vibes all throughout the movie.”
Donny is now doing a new movie for Star Cinema, “To Love Some Buddy”, where he gives support to Zanjoe Marudo and Maja Salvador, directed by Jason Paul Laxamana.
