KATRINA HALILI has the singular distinction of being the first of FHM’s Sexiest Woman who won twice in a row in 2006 and 2007. Her career was at its peak then and she was doing movies and TV shows one after another. But it got derailed because of a troublesome video. Now, 32 years old, Katrina is just thankful that she continues to be active as an actress despite what happened.
She’s currently getting raves for her performance as the kontrabida to Megan Young in “The Stepdaughters”. At this point, there is no room for regret in her heart. “The mistakes I made helped in molding me into what I am now dahil marami akong natutuhan sa mga maling ginagawa ko,” she says. “I really learned so much so I’m much more careful now. Ang masama, kung wala kang natutuhan sa mga mali mo and you can doing the same mistakes. Pero ako, I think nailagay ko naman sa ayos ang buhay ko with my daughter, Katie.”
What makes her an effective contravida? “Let’s face it, yung dating ko, may katarayan, bagay talaga sa villain roles at tanggap ko naman yun. At noong araw, mahilig talaga akong manood ng telenovelas and the villains there somehow became my peg sa pagko-contravida ko. Sa ngayon, I just follow the script and my own instincts in interpreting them at mukhang effective naman so far as I think I’m one of the most hated women on television now kasi pati si Mikael Daez as Francis, ginagamit ko para saktan si Megan Young as Mayumi na stepsister ko. Nilasing ko siya at dinala ko sa kama. O di ba, ang kapal ng fez? Ha ha ha!”
Her co-stars are amazed at how easy it is for her to switch from her galit and taray mode, then quickly back to reality. “Sabi nga nila, para raw akong de buton kasi kahit nagkukuwentuhan kami, tawanan, then tatawagin ako, take na, biglang galit at nagtataray na ako. Then once mag-cut, I’m back to my old self. Nagbibiro na uli sa set. It’s just a matter of psyching yourself up na you’re just playing a role. Kapag nasa harap ako ng kamera, iniisip ko talagang ako si Isabelle Salvador at kaaway ko si Megan as Mayumi, and I’m so determined na gawin ang lahat para maging miserable ang buhay nila ng ina niyang si Glydel Mercado. And from the looks of it, effective naman kasi laging mataas ang ratings namin, palaging 6 plus at minsan nga, umabot pa ng 8 plus, halos 9 points na nga, which is very high for an afternoon show kaya happy kaming lahat.”
