THERE HAVE BEEN reports that Alden Richards’ action-fantasy, “Victor Magtanggol” will replace “The Cure” but we’re told this is not true. We’re certain that GMA would protect their most popular male star at the moment and it would be foolish to have Alden facing Coco Martin’s invulnerable “Ang Probinsyano” as that would surely affect his career negatively.
What we heard is that the unconventional drama about a midget mom, “Onanay” starring Nora Aunor and newcomer Jo Berry, will be occupying the slot to be left behind by “The Cure”. Who knows? Kung sinu-sino na at kung anu-ano ng shows ang itinapat kay Coco. Yun pala, for all we know, si Ate Guy ang secret weapon na makakatalo kay Coco, who she has worked with before in the movie, “Padre de Familia”, which Coco himself has produced but was never shown in theaters.
What we learned is that “Viktor Magtanggol” will eventually replace the hit kaluluwa serye, “Kambal Karibal”, which continues to rate well so it is extended until September. This is good as this means Director Dominic Zapata and his creative team would have enough time to really polish Alden’s show before it goes on the air to make sure it will be a real winner.
This early, “Viktor Magtanggol” got flak for allegedly being a copycat of Marvel Studio’s Thor since he’s shown carrying a big hammer like the God of Lightning. But GMA writers led by concept creator Jules Katanyag quickly responded and said it’s based on Norse Mythology and not on Chris’ Hemsworth’s big screen version.
Alden is currently shooting some important scenes for “VIktor Magtanggol” in Japan with some of his co-stars. Our kababayans who saw him at Haneda Airport has posted his pictures arriving in Japan on line.. As of now, his sure co-stars in it are Coney Reyes as his mom, Janine Gutierrez and Andrea Torres as his leading ladies, John Estrada as the main contravida, with Al Tantay as his dad, Chynna Ortaleza, Dion Ignacio, Kristoffer Martin, Benjie Paras, Sheena Halili, Freddie Webb, Christian Bautista, Lucho Ayala, Michelle Dee and the Game of Thrones actor, Conan Stevens.
