BRANDON VERA, mixed martial artist who's now with ONE Championship, doesn’t want to be introduced as an American. “Filipino rin ako as I have dual citizenship,” he says. “As now, dito ako nakatira sa Pilipinas ng wife ko. This is our home now. Even if we’d go to the U.S., we calways come back here.”
He’s very thankful to Director Erik Matti for getting him in the hard hitting action flick produced by Viva Films and Reality Entertainment, “Buy Bust”, that got glowing reviews from foreign critics after it was premiered in New York and later, in South Korea. “I’m proud and honored to be a member of the cast of this world class movie. International audiences are raving about it as the year’s biggest action film and I can’t wait for it to open in theaters here in the Philippines on August 1 para makita nila kung gaano kaganda ito.”
He’s a martial arts champ before, but he’s now fascinated by acting. “Nage-enjoy talaga ako ngayon sa pag-arte. Before, I wasn’t so sure kung magugustuhan ko kasi ibang-iba ang martial arts sa moviemaking. Sa martial arts, we’re so strict with schedules. Here, hindi ka sure kung matutuloy ang shooting as there are a lot of factors involved, like will the weather cooperate or uulan ba. First day on the set, I told everyone to be patient with me kasi baguhan lang ako. Sabi ko, guys I don’t wanna be the cause of delay, so if there’s something wrong with what I’m doing, don’t hesitate to tell me. But everyone is so helpful to me and I’m very thankful.”
And now, he’s really inspired to do more movies. “After working with Direk Erik Matti and a dedicated actress like Anne Curtis, I truly enjoyed the process. Nakapag-adjust agad ako and mahal ko na ito. Hindi pa ako magre-retire sa martial arts, but I now really want to also make a good career out of it. Sana nga lang, maging kasing husay pa rin ni Direk Erik ang magiging next directors that I get to work with.”
