“Of course, I really thanked them for all the good projects I had with them,” she says. “Siempre, maraming nag-bashed sa akin. Wala raw akong utang na loob, wala raw akong loyalty. But I’m a working actress, so I just go where the work is. I feel so honored that GMA-7 offered me ‘Kapag Nahati ang Puso’ kasi ang ganda ng role ko, very challenging. Dati, puro inaaping nanay ang role ko. Dito, magiging glamorosa akong fashion designer.”
She plays Rio, a simple village lass who falls in love with a rich city boy, Zoren Legaspi as Nico who soon leaves back for Manila, leaving her pregnant. She tries to inform him about her situation, but Nico’s girlfriend, Bing Loyzaga as Miranda, prevents him from getting in touch with her. By some twist of fate, Rio figures in a bus crash where her baby goes missing. Nico then gets hold of the baby and makes it appear to Bing that the girl, named Claire, is their “ampon”.
Bing is so mean to Claire, who grows up to be Bea Binene, whose dream is to be a fashion designer. Rio, in turn, has a reversal of fortune. She goes abroad and becomes successful in her career as a fashion designer. She will later on come back and help Bea to start her own career, without knowing that Bea is actually her daughter.
Rio falls in love with a handsome driver, Benjamin Alves, as Joaquin, who has earlier had a budding relationship with Bea until it was nipped in the bud by Bing. Eventually, mother and daughter become rivals over the attention of Joaquin. Also in the cast are David Licauco as Zach, Bea’s friend who’s in love with her; Raquel Villavicencio as Bing’s domineering mom, plus Robert Ortega, Sharmaine Santiago, Geleen Eugino, Nar Cabico and Freddie Webb playing supporting roles, under the direction of Gil Tejada who helmed past hit dramas like “Sa Piling ni Nanay” and “Haplos”.
