DEVON SERON loves her role in the Pista Ng Pelikulang Pilipino entry, “Bakwit Boys”, as it gives her the chance to do something she loves, which is singing. “Before I joined PBB, member ako ng isang band in Cebu at pinagkakitaan ko rin noon ang pagkanta,” she reveals. “Tapos, our movie now is about pursuing your dreams. Even if you’re rich or poor, may kanya-kanya tayong struggle to fulfill your dreams. And that’s exactly what I did when I joined PBB and came to Manila to join showbiz.”
In “Bakwit Boys”, she plays Rose, a rich city girl who sees the potential of four brothers in singing and helps them record their own songs. The four brothers are Vance Larena, Ryle Santiago, Nikko Natividad and child singer Mackie Empuerto. “Musical ang movie but not the type na bigla na lang kumakanta yung characters,” she adds. “Yung musical numbers, integral part ng story kasi puro singers kami rito and we do our own songs.”
Devon started with ABS-CBN, then did movies with Regal like “Pwera Usog” and “Walwal” and also with a Korean company, “You with Me”. She was paired with Kiko Estrada in the movies she did with Regal and the rumor now is that they’re really on and he influenced her to tgransfer to GMA-7. Her first assigment was the primetime show, “The One that Got Away”. How true is this?
“Mabait po si Kiko and he’s special to me. Pero hindi siya ang dahilan nang paglipat ko ng network. Basta happy ako sa bago kong tahanan and I’m now waiting for my next assignment with the Kapuso Network. Being the breadwinner in our family, I just go where the work is. I’m thankful sa ABS-CBN for giving me the break in showbiz and I didn’t burn my bridges naman with them. Kaya lang, I felt it’s time to move on and try a new environment.”
