Lani Misalucha To Sing A Medley Of Queen Hit Songs Like 'We Are The Champions' At The 20th Anniversary Concert Of The Manila Philharmonic Orchestra At CCP This September 1

LANI MISALUCHA is excited to be the special guest of Maestro Rodel Colmenar’s 20th anniversary concert for his Manila Philharmonic Orchestra or MPO. “He has prepared a big number for me where I’ll be singing a medley of the hit songs of Queen, including ‘We are the Champions’ and ‘We Will Rock You’,” says Lani. “I will be performing with a 100 piece orchestra and 30 choir singers. Bongga, di ba?”

Lani is now also busy as one of the mentors-judges in GMA-7’s hit reality show, “The Clash”. She has lessened her commitments abroad because she wants to give more time to her family. “Ever since naman, family talaga ang priority ko kasi even before I became really active in showbiz, may family na ako. Maagang nagmahal ang lola nyo kaya mid-40s pa lang ako, may mga apo na ako. And I have no regrets on what I did for love. I’m enjoying both my family life and my career at natutuwa naman akong nagagawa ko silang balansehin.”

Maestro Rodel Colmenar is thankful that Lani agreed to be a guest in his concert, along with famous pianist Raul Sunico and the UST Singers. He recalls that the MPO was created 20 years ago because Cristina Ponce Enrile was then looking for an orchestra for her concert. “She contacted other orchestras but no response so I said I could put up a concert for her and when she asked the name, I put together the names of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and the Manila Symphony Orchestra. And that was how the MPO was born. Now, 20 years later, we’re still around. It’s hard to maintain an orchestra in our country unless you're financed by the government or by big corporations. Kami, we survive because of our sheer love for music. We accept gigs for our musicians. We don’t earn much but we’re happy with what we do.”

Titled “MPO Opus 20: Trailblazing Music Excellence”, their anniversary concert will show the MPO’s history of achievements through highlights from past performances. “We promise to give the audience a grand time as they walk down memory lane in music with us,” says Rodel. “It will be the greatest musical spectacle this year featuring both classical and contemporary music from Beethoven to Gershwin and Queen. Stage direction is by Direk Freddie Santos.”
