AFTER SUNSHINE DIZON and Ryza Cenon in the undeniable hit “Ika-6 na Utos”, catfights between two actresses became quite common in GMA-7 dramas since local viewers seem to really enjoy watching it and can’t have enough of such scenes. So we now also have catfights between Glaiza de Castro and Lauren Young in “Contessa”, Megan Young and Katrina Halili in “The Stepdaughters” and Yasmien Kurdi and Jackie Rice in “Hindi Ko Kayang Iwan Ka”.
Mind you, the contravidas in these shows are really excellent and all out in portraying their roles, even eclipsing the leads with their sheer impudence and shameless audacity, like Jackie Rice who shines in the court room scene where she taunts Yasmien for losing her kids in a bomb explosion. Now, the latest ladies to be added to this list of “warring” actresses are Sunshine Cruz and Bing Loyzaga in the hit morning drama, “Kapag Nahati ang Puso”.
They’re both fashion designers in the story and the scene where Sunshine goes to Bing and berates her for being “laos”, then Bing tries to slap Sunshine who defends herself and hits Bing with her bag, is truly the stuff that melodrama fans will surely just lap up with so much glee. But naturally, Bing is fuming so mad because she was not able to hit back at Sunshine as her husband, Zoren Legaspi, comes along to stop them.
This is actually a very crucial scene as it’s the first time that the characters played by Sunshine and Zoren meet again after events conspired to separate them away from each other many years ago. Sunshine doesn’t know that the daughter she thought had died, now played by Bea Binene, is actually with her dad, Zoren, and his wife, Bing, doesn’t know at all that Bea is really Zoren’s biological daughter and not just an “ampon”. The show becomes more interesting to watch from hereon to see if Sunshine and Zoren would also be reunited or if Sunshine would choose to stay in the arms of her younger lover, Benjamin Alves.
Does Sunshine have any hesitation to be a cougar to Benjamin’s hunky lover character in the story? “None at all. After all, we’re just playing our roles. Dito nga, magiging karibal ko pa si Bea Binene kay Benjamin, without knowing na mag-ina pala kami talaga. But in real life, mag-iisip muna akong mabuti before I fall for a much younger man.”
