They have since made one hit movie after another: “She’s Dating the Gangster”, “Crazy Beautiful You”, “Barcelona”, “Can’t Help Falling in Love”. They’re now together again in a romantic drama, “The Hows of Us”, directed by Cathy Molina who has handled them successfully before both on film and TV.
In “The How’s of Us”, Daniel is Primo and Kathryn is George. Their story starts with them happy together in their relationship. But things get sour as Kathryn wants to be a doctor while Daniel is the vocalist of a band who’s more devoted to his music.In the process, they get to ask several questions: How did we first fall in love? How do we now save us? How do we begin again? The movie will answer all these “how” questions for you. Hence, the film’s title is “The Hows of Us”. Daniel says sorry but Kathryn tells him: “What makes that sorry different from all your other sorrys before?”
An intimate examination of a relationship, both Kathryn and Daniel say this film is different from all the other films they’ve done before. “Sobrang nahirapan ako rito kasi malayo ang characters namin sa movie from what we really are in real life,” says Kathryn. “Ang laki ng hiningi sa amin as Primo and George kasi very big talaga ang difference. Pinaghalo itong romcom and heavy drama and with the help of Direk Cathy, we’re confident na naitawid naman namin nang maayos.”“Iba ang tone ng movie from the ones we did before,” adds Daniel. “Mas seryoso, mas mature ang characters namin in tackling yung different emotions and situations na pinagdaraanan namin.”
Direk Cathy adds: “I’m so proud of Daniel here. Hindi ko siya dinirek dito. Pinabayaan ko lang siya. He has grown so much as an actor, pareho sila, they’ve never done anything like this. For the first time, pinuntahan namin ang mga bawal puntahan. We were able to make a movie about relationships that we can all be proud of.”What can Daniel say now that Kathryn is going on her own in the movie she’s doing with Sharon Cuneta and Richard Gomez? They’re fans on the internet are afraid “na baka pinaghihiwalay na ang love team nila”?
“Actually, I’m happy for Kathryn at suporta ko siya rito. I’m excited for her kasi may projects siyang mag-isa siya, hindi ako kasama, and this is good chance for her to grow lalo na’t magagaling na artista ang kasama niya. Maganda rin yung naggo-grow kami individually as artists para hindi forever kaming nakatali sa isa’t isa. But it doesn’t necessarily mean na bubuwagin na ang KathNiel love team. Magsasama kami uli in the future but this time, panoorin muna ninyo ang ‘The Hows of Us’ na magsisimula na sa mga sinehan on Wednesday, August 29.”
