Cristine Reyes Of 'Abay Babes' On The Current State Of Her Lovelife: "Okay Naman. Maayos At Tahimik Ang Buhay Ko"

CRISTINE REYES leads the cast of Viva’s latest offering, a sex-comedy about bridesmaids entitled “Abay Babes”. The four other girls are Nathalie Hart, Meg Imperial, Roxanne Barcelo and beauty queen Kylie Versoza. Only Nathalie has so far admitted that she has a boyfriend, an Indian national who’s the dad of the baby she’s now carrying. What about the rest of them?
“I have a boyfriend,” says Kylie. “He’s non showbiz.”

“Ako rin, non-showbiz,” says Meg. “But right now, it just got complicated. Ngayon lang, baka bukas, hindi na. Ha ha ha!”

“Ako, wala, nganga!” says Roxanne. “Since the last one (Will Devaughn), wala talaga. But enjoy naman ako sa freedom ko.”

How about Cristine who’s rumored to be estranged from husband Ali Kathibi? “Okay naman ako, Maayos and tahimik ang buhay ko,” she says cryptically. Someone then approached us and told us not to pursue our line of questioning to Cristine anymore. “Please lang, tama na, kasi she's very sensitive about that topic. Maawa ka na lang sa pinagdaraanan niya.”And we obliged. From that, you can draw your own conclusions.

We then ask the movie’s director, Don Cuaresma (current director of the soap “Araw Gabi” on ABS-CBN), how “Abay Babes” came about? “Boss Vic del Rosario asked me to do a comedy pero walang mga komedyante. After their hugot romantic films, bale bumalik sila rito in the sex-comedies they used to do before. Yung casting, galing lahat sa Viva and it’s my first time to work with the entire cast.”

We ask him to explain the roles of all the girls in “Abay Babes”. “This is the story of four friends in Bicol and we shot for one week in Albay. Doon sa scene that we shot sa Cagsawa in front of Mayon, hirap na hirap kami sa crowd control dahil sa dami ng tao. The girls all vowed na they’ll reunite kapag may ikinasal nang isa sa kanila. They’re Cristine, Nathalie, Kylie and Roxanne. Si Meg is the outsider in their group na balikbayan from the U.S. who’s a lesbian. She acts as their videographer.

“Si Cristine becomes a doctor, an OB-GYN, but hindi siya pinalad sa love life niya. She’s the mistress of a married man at siya pa ang nagpaanak sa baby ng misis ng lover niya. Si Nathalie ang most ambitious sa kanila, naging model at gustong mag-showbiz. Boyfriend niya si Ronnie Liang and five years na sila, but it turns out that Ronnie has a very big secret na ikagugulantang ni Nathalie.

“Si Kylie ang pinakamalandi sa kanila sa high school, but when they reunite, they’re all surprised dahil naging nun siya, madre na pala. Si Roxanne is the ugliest sa kanila and we made her wear protruding dentures para maging credible siya, parang si Kakai Bautista ang peg. Ang motto niya in life is: daig ng malandi ang maganda, kaya siya ang pinakaunang ikakasal sa kanila. At ang kanyang mapapangasawa rito is Tom Rodriguez. The other male members of the cast are Mark Bautista as a psychotic macho dancer and Marco Gumabao as the guy na pinag-aagawan nina Cristine at Nathalie in high school.”

Is it true some of the girls had a tiff while shooting the movie, like Roxanne and Nathalie? “Kung meron man, I think naayos din nila agad kasi everything went on smoothly. Wala akong naging problema sa kanila at all, kasi naging maganda ang bonding ng lahat, lalo na while we were shooting on location in Bicol. My problem is mas sanay sila sa drama and they’re not really comedians so, before shooting started, nagpa-comedy workshop muna ako sa kanila at okay naman ang naging resulta. This is a very funny movie, guaranteed na laugh out loud siya.”
