Inah De Belen Plays Jake Vargas' Battered Girlfriend In 'Ika-5 Utos', Reveals She's Had Abusive Boyfriends Before In Real Life

INAH DE BELEN says she is nervous working with her aunt, Gelli de Belen, in Gelli’s comeback vehicle on GMA’s “Ika-5 Utos”. “Nakaka-pressure kasi yung working with a relative you grew up with,” she says. “Madalas ko siyang kasama but not katrabaho, so somehow nakaka-conscious.

Parang when I worked with my mom and dad din. But I’m glad lahat kami, magkakasama na ngayon dito sa GMA-7. Nakaka-inspire din kasi it motivates you to do good in your job. Ang nakakatawa, hindi ako ang anak dito ni Tita Gelli rito sa ‘Ika-5 Utos’ kundi si Jake (Vargas, her boyfriend). Ako si Daniella, battered girlfriend ni Jake. Yes, sinasaktan niya ako rito.”

In real life, has she experienced being a battered girlfriend? “Yes, sa non-showbiz boyfriends ko noon. Not naman physically, but only verbally and emotionally. Minumura nila ako. Yung una, five years din kami. Yes, tumagal din kasi you like to think magbabago siya but it comes to a point na mapapagod ka rin so nakipag-break din ako. Yung other one, months lang, di ko na pinatagal. I was still a teenager then and I asked myself why do I attract such guys, but I can’t get any answer. My mom doesn’t know about it, ha. Now, she’ll know from this. My mom is such a strong woman, so I wanna be more like her.”

How about Jake now? “Mas okay siya. Sa ‘Ika-5 Utos’ lang siya nananakit ng girlfriend, but in real life, no, mabait siya. We get along fine.”

In the story, Jake is the master in their frat and he kills one of the neophytes in a case of hazing, Kiko Estrada. This is because he got jealous when he suspected Kiko of flirting with Inah. “Yes, akong dahilan kaya mapapatay niya si Kiko,” says Inah. “Abangan nyo this Monday kasi sobrang ganda and complicated ang story involving three different families. It involves passion, infidelity and yes, murder.”
