Ritz Azul Gives A Very Convincing Performance As An Easy Girl In 'The Hopeful Romantic' But Is A Certified Virgin In Real Life

RITZ AZUL gives a standout performance as the liberated girl who goes with men only for money in Regal’s crowdpleasing romantic comedy, “The Hopeful Romantic”. She is so relaxed in her portrayal in her comic, sexy and even dramatic scenes because she turns out to be harboring a secret after being deceived by an illegal recruiter. But even if she’s very convincing as a loose and easy girl, in real life, Ritz is a certified virgin. To begin with, she’s NBSB, no boyfriend since birth and it’s only now that she’s entertaining a nonshowbiz suitor seriously. Still, she won’t surrender her virginity yet to any one.

“I will give it only to the man I will marry,” she says.

Hasn’t she received any indecent proposal since she joined showbiz? “Ay, meron na po. Nung bago pa lang ako. Nagulat nga ako. But ayoko. Hindi puede. Walang presyo ang pagkababae ko. Priceless. For 24 years of my life, iniingatan ko ang pagkababae ko at hindi mababayaran ng kahit anong halaga ang pagpapahalaga ko rito.”

Deep inside, she’s still a conservative provinciana at heart since she grew up in Pampanga. “Nasa upbringing din po yan. Pinalaki ako ng mga magulang ko may takot sa Diyos at alam ko ang importancia ng virginity ng isang babae. Sacred talaga ito for me at yun ang gift mo sa magiging husband mo. I’ll always say no to premarital sex.”

So how did she convincingly enact the role of Veronica aka Nikki aka Ashley aka Amanda, a floozy and a golddigger in “The Hopeful Romantic”, which had a hit premiere night at Trinoma last Monday? “Naku, acting lang pong lahat yan. Sinabi ko naman kay Direk Topel Lee at sa leading man kong si Pepe Herrera na wala pa akong anuman karanasan so tinulungan nila ako sa’king mga eksena. Kahit nga manood ng sexy movies, ayoko. May nagpapanood sa’kin ng porn, pero nagsisimula pa lang, ayoko na. Maski sa ibang movies, ayoko ng bed scenes and pumping scenes. Hindi naman po sa nagmamalinis ako, sabihin nyo nang manang ako, but I was just raised that way, sorry po.”

But she has a bedscene with Pepe in “The Hopeful Romantic”, doesn’t she? “Yes, pero maganda po ang treatment. Kahit liberated ang role ko sa story, hindi kayo mate-turn off sa character kasi yung movie, comedy ang treatment kaya matatawa ka, pero may puso rin kaya tiyak ding maiiyak ka kasi may maganda siyang message about being true to yourself. Huwag kang magpanggap, don’t pretend to be someone you are not. Kasi nagpanggap si Pepe rito na mayaman makuha lang ako at ako naman, nagpanggap din sa kanya tungkol sa pagkatao ko. So I’m really proud of this movie kasi may magandang insights about life na mapupulot ang audience dito.”
