Director Connie Macatuno Praises Stars Sanya Lopez & Derrick Monasterio For Their Uninhibited Performances In 'Wild And Free'

DIRECTOR CONNIE MACATUNO directed the acclaimed “Mama’s Girl”, earlier this year and it got a Grade A from the Cinema Evaluation Board. That was a wholesome drama about mother-daughter relationships. Now, she ventures into doing a sexy romance, “Wild and Free”, which launches TV stars Derrick Monasterio and Sanya Lopez into big screen stardom and opens in cinemas on October 10. Didn’t she have a hard time directing them since they’re both required to show some skin her movie?

“Not really, okay naman sila,” she says. “Even before we started shooting, I made it clear to them what I want them to do and show in the movie at nagkaintindihan naman kami. Open ang communication namin and they tell me kung comfortable silang gawin ang pinagagawa ko o hindi. I told them I want authentic love scenes, ayoko nang dinadaya ang mga halik at bed scenes. Pumayag naman sila kasi they’re aware importante yung realism sa story. And I’m sure na-feel nila ang roles nila kasi I saw it, feel na feel nila. Hindi na nga sila nag-plaster in some scenes kasi sobrang comfortable na sila sa isa’t isa. Kahit maraming tao sa set, wala na silang pakialam. I really admire them for being such great professionals who love their craft.”

What’s the difference between her sexy film and those made by other directors? “Well, I think, iba ang treatment and execution ng isang female director compared to male or gay filmmakers. Before, gamit na gamit ang mga babae, sex objects. My scenes give voice to a female storyteller na iba ang take in doing intimate scenes between a man and a woman. Hindi lang yung male partner ang nage-enjoy but pareho sila. Hindi lang basta wild and free ang atake, but I think more tender, more compassionate, with more sensitivity and emotions involved.”

Was she also wild and free in her younger days? “Someone said autobiography ko nga raw itong ‘Wlide and Free’. Kasi alam nilang noong single pa ako, masyado akong wild. Ha ha ha! Pero alam ko rin namang magpa-sweet, lalo sa anak ko, who’s now 16. As a single mother, marami na kong pinagdaanan sa buhay at iba’t ibang aspeto ng life na puede kong i-share sa audience mo. Dito, hindi lang yung sexy or intimate scenes ang importante but the love between the characters, it’s also about acceptance and forgiveness, na kailangan kung mahal mo talaga ang isang tao.”

We heard that Regal personnel are all raving about how good the direction of Direk Connie is in “Wild and Free”, which is rated R-13, and she’s due to get another assignment for sure.
