Eddie Garcia The FilmFest King Who Won Best Actor In Cinemalaya For 'ML', Now Also In QCinema FilmFest With 'Hintayan Ng Langit', & The Metro Filmfest With 'Rainbow's Sunset'

EDDIE GARCIA might be in his late 80s but he certainly has no plans of retiring or slowing down as an actor. “Hangga’t may dumarating na magandang offers, basta sige lang ako sa pag-arte,” he says. “I’ve been doing this all my life and I’m enjoying what I do, so I won’t ever retire.”

This year has proven to be a very busy one for Manoy Eddie as he has done three important films. He was in the Cinemalaya entry, “ML (Martial Law)”, directed by Benedict Mique. For this film, he won the Cinemalaya best actor award in his role as a retired army colonel who terrorizes some teenagers who strayed into his house. This is now scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release on November 7.

He’s also being seen in the current QCinema entry, “Hintayan ng Langit”, directed by Dan Villegas. He and Gina Pareno play former lovers on earth whose romance was never consummated. Now, they’re both dead and play two souls in purgatory who are waiting for their admission to heaven. “Maganda yung story idea based on a play,” says Eddie. “Di ba, sabi sa marriage vows, till death do us part? E, paano kung patay na kayo, gaya nang nangyari sa amin ni Gina? Does it mean puede na kayong mag-try uli na iba naman ang partner? I’m glad to have worked with Dan Villegas in this movie. He’s definitely one of our best young directors today.”

And before the year is over, Manoy Eddie will be seen in yet another new movie, “Rainbow’s Sunset”, an official entry in the Metro Manila Film Festival directed by Joel Lamangan. He plays an octogenarian senator who comes out of the closet to admit his long time relationship with Tony Mabesa, even if he has also long been married tdo Gloria Romero and they have three children who are all adults and with their own families: Tirso Cruz III, Aiko Melendez and Sunshine Dizon.

“I’m glad to be reunited with Joel Lamangan in
this movie,” says Manoy Eddie. “He was the one who gave me my Urian best actor award for the movie, ‘Deathrow’, in 2000. Definitely, kakaiba yung role ko rito as an old man who is being prevented by his children na amining bakla pala siya all these years. But wala na akong pakialam, kasi my lover is dying and I want to proclaim to the whole world that we have loved each other ever since we were young men.”

We won’t be suprised if his performance in “Rainbow’s Sunset” would give Manoy Eddie another best actor award.
